Teacup Poodle Origins
The Poodle breed is one of the most popular dogs in the world. The Poodle was first bred in Germany to be a working and gun dog. It was an ideal hunting companion, as their coat was waterproof and they have excellent retrieving abilities.
These days, it is more common to find Poodles as lapdogs than working dogs. Poodles are now commonly bred in smaller breeds. This allows more people to enjoy owning a Poodle as a best friend.
The Toy Poodle is a variation of the Poodle breed and was created in the 1900s through the crossbreeding of miniature Poodles, with forebears including the Hungarian, Portuguese, and North American Barbet as well as the Spanish Water Dogs.
The Teacup variation of the breed, an Asian Miniature Poodle, has been carefully bred from the Toy Poodle and is smaller than six pounds.
The Kennel Club in the United Kingdom (UKC) as well as The American Kennel Club (AKC) do not recognise the Teacup Poodle as a purebred dog breed.
Asian Tea Cup Poodle Breed Characteristics

Asian Teacup Poodle Appearance
One of the tiniest canines available is the Asian Teacup Poodle.
The Asian Teacup Poodle has a shorter muzzle than a toy poodle and is an elegant-looking little dog. They do not grow to more than 22 – 23cm and their weight comes in under 2.2kg.
Their small stature allows them to live happily in both large and small spaces.
They have floppy ears, which can vary in size due to selective breeding. Their eyes are also small, dark, and widely set.
Their coat is hypoallergenic due to the fact that they do not shed fur. So they are perfect for people with allergies.
Asian Teacup Poodles come in a variety of colours, even Merle colours. Red being most desirable and popular, orange, chocolate, apricot, silver, and combination with white.
Asian Teacup Poodle Temperament
These adorable puppies are devoted and affectionate. They are very affectionate and wonderful companions for single people, families, and senior citizens.
Toy Poodles are considered the most intelligent dogs in the world after the Border Collie breed.
They have a high work ethic, are always eager to please, and pick up new commands quickly and precisely.
Training Your Teacup Poodle
Asian Teacup Poodles are highly intelligent and easily trained.
As with most dogs, repitition and encouraging treats work wonders when training. Strict discipline is important, as the safety of your little dog may rely on them staying or sitting on command.
Teacup Poodle Needs
Grooming
It is good practice to begin grooming Teacup Poodles as soon as possible. Many breeders begin grooming between four and six weeks of age. This usually starts with shaving the Poodles facial hair. Traditionally, Poodles are shaved around their feet, faces, and feet.
The Poodle breed is unusual in that their hair grows indefinitely. If you do not cut their hair, it will continue getting longer and curlier. An unmanaged coat can also cause mats.
Nail trimming can begin as early as three days old to stop the puppies from hurting their mothers while they are nursing.
This also allows the puppies to get used to being handled and groomed at a young age.
Socialising
Poodles are highly social dogs that form strong bonds with their owners and get along well with children and other animals when properly socialized.
Because of their diminutive size, they are vulnerable to rough handling by children. It is in everyone’s best interest to teach children to be gentle with these little dogs.
To prevent anxiety and aggression, Poodles should be heavily socialized to new people, and a variety of environments, starting when they are puppies.
Activities
Poodles are fairly high-energy dogs. Therefore, they need a good amount of daily exercise. Even Teacup Poodles find that a short daily run in the backyard is insufficient. Instead, they benefit greatly from one or two brisk walks, high-energy games, and training classes.
When Poodles lack exercise and stimulation, they can become destructive and anxious. Experts suggest that exercise be the first line of defense against a variety of behavior issues, noting that many dogs see an immediate improvement in anxiety with appropriate exercise.
